Today I have been lucky enough to do an interview with the wonderful upcoming author Kalie Holford!
Thank you so much for being able to do this interview with me!
I’m so excited! Thank you so much for reaching out to me.
Who or what got you into reading?
My parents got me into reading at a really young age. They read to me every night from the time I was born into my early teens. This really cultivated an immediate love for books, and I was very lucky to have parents who took the time to tell me stories. My mum says I used to fall asleep atop a pile of books because I couldn’t bring just one to bed.
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
This is honestly really hard to pinpoint. The first record I have of knowing I wanted to be a writer is from second grade, but I think it’s just something that’s always been part of my life. I started writing books and researching traditional publishing at twelve and I think that’s when writing shifted into something I was actively pursuing.
How do you balance writing and reading with life?
I’m still trying to get better at this, especially as a full-time university student. I’m learning how to give myself breaks, and how to read for craft as well as enjoyment. This is probably my most ongoing work-in-progress, and if anyone else has tips I’d love to hear them!
Did you ever have any plans growing up on being an author?
Yes It’s been my biggest dream for as long as I can remember.
What authors do you look up to?
So, so many. Some of the authors I really, really look up to specifically are Christina Li, Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund-Broka, Julian Winters, Rachael Lippincott and Alyson Derrick, Catherine Bakewell, Nina Moreno, Nina Varela, Angeline Boulley, and my mum!
What can you tell us about your debut book and when can we expect it to be published?
My debut book, THE LAST LOVE SONG, is a love story at its heart. It’s about family both given and found, falling in love, and a mother and daughter who reach each other across time and music. It follows an eighteen-year-old songwriter, Mia, as she tries to assemble her late country star mother’s past through a scavenger hunt in her mother’s diary. It’s tentatively scheduled to release in Summer 2024 from Blackstone Publishing!
Thank you for agreeing to do this interview with me!
It was my pleasure! Thank you so much for reaching out! ❤
