LS: Thank you for asking!
YA Books are Epic: First off, let’s get started talking about Girl Out of Water. What is your book about? Who or what is this story based on?
LS: The story is about a California surfer girl who has to spend the summer in Nebraska taking care of her three younger cousins. There are a lot of family dynamics, sports, and I’ve been told, a pretty swoony romance.
YA Books are Epic: Is this your debut novel? If so, how long did it take from the start of writing to getting it published?
LS: Yes, it is! I worked on it for sixth months before querying agents, but from first idea to on-the-shelves, it’ll be close to three years. There’s quite a bit of down time in between stages once you get an agent.
YA Books are Epic: Who are some authors that you enjoy reading in your free time?
LS: Ah! Too many! Shout out to some new faves: Angie Thomas, Sandhya Menon, Jen Wilde, and so many more!
YA Books are Epic: Who got you into reading?
LS: I guess that’d be my mom! I’ve been a reader as long as I could read, and my mom very rarely told me we’re not buying more books today
YA Books are Epic: Which format do you prefer reading? Hardcover, Paperback, Audiobook or eBook?
LS: I have a thing for mass market paperbacks – they’re just so – readable!
YA Books are Epic: Do you currently have any signings or events set up? If not how can other fellow book lovers get a signed copy of your book?
LS: If this posts before May 2nd they can order a signed copy from Foxtale Books in Georgia. I had to postpone my launch event, so I will be having one later this summer, and I’ll definitely be tweeting all the info once I know it.
